Chile Gold Peso was minted between the year 1926 and 1980 by the Chilean Santiago Mint. The largest number of coins were struck when this mint commenced its operations in 1926. The Chile Gold Peso coins were initially minted to be used as legal currency in Chile. However, as time advanced they were replaced by other forms of coins and notes. Despite this Chile Gold Peso are still a legal tender within the Republic of Chile.

The Chile Gold Peso coin comes in denominations of 20, 50 and 100. Their intrinsic value is much higher than the face value which creates a high demand among investors. Their actual value is the market price held in retirement or investment portfolios which keep fluctuating every now and then. The dimensions of this precious coin varies depending on the face value indicated on it although the thickness and gold purity is constant across all of them. The denomination 100 weighs 0.5886t/oz, its thickness is 2.1mm, its width spans 31.1mm and it is 90.0% pure of gold. On the other side denomination 50 weighs 0.2943t/oz and has a diameter of 24mm while the 20 weighs 0.3532t/oz with a width of 18.5mm.

The obverse side of the Chile Gold Peso has a depiction of a woman dressed in Chilean attire. At the top half of the coin the words “REPUBLICA DE CHILE” are inscribed. At the bottom center the date of issue is indicated. The center of the reverse side contains the coat of arms of Chile comprised of a shield bearing a five pointed star. This shield is supported by two crowned animals on either side which resemble a deer and an eagle. On the top most arc the inscription “CIEN PESOS” appears while the words “DIEZ CONDORES” appear at the bottom place alongside the denomination of the coin. Towards the right the sign “SO” the mark of the Santiago de Chile Mint appears.

Chile Gold Peso was minted by Chilean Santiago Mint. The Chilean Santiago Mint was established in 1926 and it is during this year when the largest number of gold coins were struck.
