Denmark Gold Kroner

The Denmark Gold Kroner was struck between 1863 and 1917. It is such a unique coin in that it features each of the three successive rulers of Denmark during that time; Christian IX, Fredrick VIII, and Christian X. The coins were struck and designed to feature a portrait of the ruler at the time of minting. They were issued in limited numbers thus limited availability presently. They were used as the currency of Denmark before being replaced by other forms as technology advanced further.

The Denmark Gold Kroner comes in denominations of 10 and 20. They were minted in limited in small quantities and this corresponds to their increased value due to limited availability. However, it is important to note that their face value do not reflect their intrinsic value. The intrinsic value is determined by the world gold spot. This is set depending with availability of the coin and its historical perception. The appearance of different rulers on the coins makes them more valuable to collectors as well as investors. The 10 Kroner denomination weighs 4.480g with a width of 18.5mm; it also has a thickness of 1.25mm. The 20 Kroner denomination on the other hand spans 23mm in width, 1.6mm thickness with a weight of 8.96g. It is critical to note that the coins are struck with a 90.0% gold fineness that increases their value even further.

The obverse of this coins features a depiction of the rulers of Denmark in succession. The first coin minted between 1863 and 1905 features Christian IX, the second was minted between 1908 and 1912 featuring Frederick VIII while the last one features Christian X minted between 1913 and 1917. The reverse side features a crowned and mantled coat of arms. Beneath it, the year of mintage and its value is indicated. Furthermore, it also has the mintmark and initials of the designer, Vilhelm Buchard Poulsen.

Danish Monarchy established the Danish Royal Mint in the early 16^th century. It is currently by law the only company allowed to mint the Danish currency. Its headquarters are located in Copenhagen and is owned by Danish State.
