The Slovakia Gold Koruna coin is part of a series of coins that were issued by Slovakia from February 8, 1993 to December 31, 2008. The term koruna means crown and the coins have since been withdrawn as official currency of Slovakia. Since January 1, 2009, the Slovakia Gold Koruna has been uncirculated.

The Slovakia Gold Koruna comes in the denomination of 10 Slovak Korún coins. The coin has a diameter of 26.5 millimeters and is 1.7 millimeters thick. It has a round shape and a gross weight of 15.5517 grams. The 2008 version of the coin has a gold purity of 0.999. It appeals to many coin collectors and investors due to two main reasons. First, trading in the Slovakia Gold Koruna coins does not attract any form of sales tax or VAT. Second, the coin is no longer circulated and, therefore, rare with its last mintage in 2008 being 3,800 coins only.

The obverse side features the Slovak shield, which contains a double stacked cross on top what looks like clouds, at the top of the coin. The inscription, “SLOVENSKÁ REPUBLIKA”, runs horizontally below the Slovak shield. The translation is, “Slovak Republic”. Right below this inscription is the year of mint in smaller font size. The gold fineness, “999” mark is below the year in even smaller font inside a rectangular frame, which is adjacent to two medal-like inscriptions. The letter, “z”, which denotes the name of the engrave of the coin, Drahomir Zobek, is inscribed below the second medal-like inscription next to the gold fineness mark.

The reverse side of the Slovakia Gold Koruna has an eleventh century bronze cross, which contains three images of the Christ in declining sizes of full-length, half-size, and bust-size. The cross has a hollow mark on the top right corner. Right at the bottom right stand of the cross is the inscription, “z” for the engraver. The text, “10 Sk” appears horizontally in two lines at the bottom-right section of the coin and above the inscription, “R”. The Slovakia Gold Koruna coins were minted by the National Mint located in Kremnica.
