The Australian Gold Kangaroo coins have been minted for the longest time by the Perth Mint. Gold Corp. introduced the series of Australian Gold Kangaroo bullion coins in 1987. The Western Australian Government entirely owns Gold Corp., which issues the gold kangaroo coinage as legal tender in Australia. The Australian Gold Kangaroo coins appeal to both investors and collectors both in Australia and globally due to its detailed features, gold quality and exemption from sales tax or VAT.

The Australian Gold Kangaroo coins has been issued in different sizes over the years including 1/10, ¼, ½, and 1 oz with purities of .9999. They have varying face values of 15, 25, 50 and 100 Australian dollars. In the order listed here, they have maximum diameters of 16.1, 20.1, 25.1 and 32.6 millimeters respectively. The coins have thicknesses of 1.3, 1.8, 2.2 and 2.8 millimeters.

The obverse of all the Australian Gold Kangaroo coins minted from 2012 to 2017 feature the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a crown and looking to the right. The effigy is the work of Ian Rank-Broadley and has his initials, “IRB” below the neckline. The inscriptions, “ELIZABETH II” and “AUSTRALIA” are common to all denominations towards the top while the face values of the coin appear at the bottom of the coin below the effigy. The 2018 and 2019 issues of the Australian Gold Kangaroo coins have the Jodi Clark crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, which has been adapted to her aging self, facing to the right. All the coins’ obverses have engravements of either one or two kangaroos as this changes every year even when the denomination remains the same.

For example, 2017 1/10oz coin has a hopping kangaroo facing right in a scenery that contains leaves. Contrastingly, the 2014 1/10oz has a kangaroo sitting on its tail facing right and its head turned to the left in a picturesque setting with hills, leafless trees, a fence and grass-like engravings. Besides the common denominations mentioned already, the Australian Gold Kangaroo coins are also available in bigger sizes including the 2, 10 and 32.15oz coins.
