Buy Australian Silver Year of the Snake coins online. The Australian Silver Year of the Snake was initially released in the year 2013 so as to commemorate the year as the ‘Year of the Snake’. With a limited mintage of just 300,000 coins, these 1 oz silver coins are not often encountered in the market.
The coin has a diameter of 45.6 millimeters and a thickness of 2.6 millimeters. The coin has a silver fineness of .999 and has a reeded edge. The obverse, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicts the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. She faces the right side of the coin wearing the crown she wore for her coronation in 1953. The name “ELIZABETH II” is engraved from the mid-left section of the coin to top-left of the coin, clockwise. “AUSTRALIA” is embossed on the right side of the coin; from the top-right side to the mid-right section of the coin. The size of the snake coin, silver purity, the year of mintage and the face value of the coin are engraved at the bottom of the coin, “1 OZ 999 SILVER 2013 1 D0LLAR”, from the mid-left side to the mid-right side, respectively. The initials “IRB” are embossed below the Queen’s neck, standing for the designer’s name.
Designed by Ing Jong, the reverse of the Silver Snake coin depicts the image of a snake curled around a tree branch. The snake faces the right side of the coin, its tongue out of its mouth. At the bottom of the coin, the text, “YEAR OF THE SNAKE” is engraved at the bottom of the coin, from the bottom-left to the bottom-right. The Chinese character for snake, “蛇”, is embossed at the mid-right section of the coin. The mint mark, “P” is carved on the mid-right side of the coin, below the snake’s tongue.
