The Platinum Britannia coin has a diameter of 16.5 millimeters and a thickness of 1.8 millimeters. Having a reeded edge, the coin has platinum fineness of .9995. The obverse of the coin features the effigy of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. She faces the right side of the coin whilst wearing the crown she wore during her coronation in 1953. The obverse side was designed by Jody Clark, thus his initials, “J.C”, are engraved beneath the image of Her Majesty. Surrounding the effigy is the inscription “ELIZABETH II • D • G • REG • F • D • 10 POUNDS •” that runs along the rim of the coin from the top-right side of the coin, in a clockwise direction. The initials on the text “D • G • REG • F • D” stand for ‘Dei Gratia Regina Fidei Defensor’ which in English translates to: By the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of Faith.

Designed by Philip Nathan, the reverse side of the coin portrays the image of Britannia. He presented the icon with a strong maritime influence, standing windswept in a classical gown, waves at her feet, a trident held on the right hand to control the seas while on the left hand, she wields an olive branch and a shield with the Union Jack flag on it ready to defend the nation against outside aggressors. Britannia is depicted moving towards the right side of the coin but facing the left side of the coin. Britannia stands perched at the Southern coasts of Britain ready to defend the isles, a powerful symbol of strength and unity. The text “’ BRITTANIA ‘2019’ 1/10 OZ ‘999.5’ PLATINUM’” runs along the periphery of the coin from the bottom-left side to the bottom-right side, clockwise.

Coinage was done by the Royal Mint which produces coins for the United Kingdom. The coin is a legal tender in the UK, so you can buy British Platinum Britannia coin online which makes it Capital Gains Tax exempt
