Buy British Silver Britannia coins online. British Silver Britannia coins are British bullion coins issued since 1997. They contain one troy ounce of silver and have a face value of 2 Pounds. They are also issued in fractional sizes of one-half, one-quarter, and one-tenth and with face values of fifty pounds, twenty-five pounds and ten pounds respectively. In 2013, two additional sizes were introduced, a five-ounce coin of value of ten pounds, and a fractional size of one-twentieth of face value.

The 1 t/oz coin has a diameter of 38.61 millimeters and a thickness of 3 millimeters. With its milled edge, the coin has a silver fineness of 99.9% and weighs 31.21 grams. The obverse of the coin, designed by Jody Clark, portrays the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing the right side of the coin. The Queen wears the crown she wore for her coronation in 1953. The initials of Jody Clark, “JC”, are engraved below the effigy. Along the rim of the coin, the text “ELIZABETH II • D • G • REG • F• D • 2 POUNDS •” is engraved from the top-right of the coin, clockwise, to the top of the coin. DG REG FD which are initials for Latin: Dei Gratia Regina Fidei Defensor which translates to: By the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of Faith.

The reverse of the British Silver Britannia coin depicts the portrait of Britannia (Latinisation of the native British word for the island, Pretani). She faces the left side of the coin holding a shield by her left hand and a trident on her right hand. The size of the coin, “1 OZ”, is engraved at the top of the coin. On the right side of the coin, the silver purity of the coin is inscribed; from the top-right to the bottom-right- “999 FINE SILVER”. From the bottom-left of the coin, “BRITANNIA 2016” is inscribed to the top left of the coin.

The Royal Mint, a government-owned mint that produces coins for the United Kingdom, manufactured the coin.
