The Canadian Gold Tiger and Dragon Yin and Yang coin is the first ever coin to be minted with a square hole. It is a celebration of the longstanding Chinese tradition, which depicts dragons and tigers in various forms through diverse adventurous tales and legends. The tiger and the dragon are also connected with the four points of a compass representing West and East respectively. However, the Yin and Yang goes connotation goes further to imply balance in a universal and timeless duality.

Minted in 2016 and with a proof finish, the face value of the Canadian Gold Tiger and Dragon Yin and Yang coin is 200 dollars. It has a serrated edge and a diameter of 30 millimeters. The weight of the coin is 28.25 grams all of which is pure gold (99.99% purity). The coins are comparatively rare as only 588 were minted thereby rendering the coin a high-demand limited-supply type. On both sides of the coin, you will likely appreciate the beautiful design coupled with the engravement of traditional Chinese motifs and imagery.

The design of Canadian Gold Tiger and Dragon Yin and Yang is the work of Charles Vinh, a Canadian artist. The unique obverse of the coin contains two phoenixes, which are traditionally linked with the Empress, the Queen, and the feminine upon juxtaposition with the dragon. They appear at the middle flanking either side of the square hole at the center. Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy facing right and inside a smoothly polished circle with a touch of scrollwork styling running to the bottom of the coin and connected to a phoenix’s wing is at the top below the legend, “ELIZABETH II”. The inscription, “D · G · REGINA”, which is Latin abbreviation for “Dei Gratia Regina” meaning “By the Grace of God, Queen” is at the bottom of the coin.

The Canadian Gold Tiger and Dragon Yin and Yang coin is minted and distributed by the Royal Canadian Mint.
