The obverse of the coin features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. “ELIZABETH II” is inscribed on the left side of the coin, from bottom to left. On the right side of the coin, “D ∙ G ∙ REGINA” is engraved. The texts on the obverse mean: Elizabeth II By the Grace of God, Queen. The Queen’s right shoulder has two initials inscribed, “SB”, which stand for Susanna Blunt, who designed the obverse.

The reverse of the coin has the portrait of a monkey which holds a fruit by its left hand. The monkey slouches with its right hand over its head, facing forward. The tail forms an inverted S-like shape. At the top of the coin, the name “CANADA” is inscribed curving towards the right side of the coin. the year of mintage is debossed on the top-right side of the coin. for example, “2016”. The Chinese character for monkey, “ 猴”, is engraved on the left side of the coin, above the monkey’s tail. The face value of the coin is engraved at the bottom of the coin, below the monkey. For example, “15 DOLLARS”. On the left side of the coin, the initials “AC” are inscribed beside the tail. They stand for Aries Cheung, designer of the reverse.
