A five silver franc coin was introduced in 1801-02, half franc, one-franc. In 1960, the new franc was introduced, worth 100 old francs. The 5 silver francs were introduced this year and the 10 siver francs wwere introduced in the year 1965. From 1974 to 1980, a 50- franc piece was issued but was demonetized after the price of silver spiked. In 1982, a 100-franc was issued.

For the 1 franc silver coin, the diameter of the coin is 23 millimeters and a thickness of 1.40 millimeters.  Having a gross weight of 5 grams, the coin has a silver fineness of 83.5%. With its reeded edge, the obverse of the coin features the effigy of a sower, La Semeuse Marianne. She faces the left side of the coin, with the hands spread open. On her right-hand side, the image of a sun is seen on the horizon, with its rays emerging. Along the rim of the coin, on the left side, the text “ REPUBLIQUE” is inscribed from the bottom to the top. On the right side of the coin, “FRANÇAISE” is engraved from the top to the bottom. The entire text translates to Republic of France. Below the feet of the sower, the name of the designer of the coin is inscribed, “O. Roty”.

The reverse of the France Silver Franc coin features a wreath which slants with its top end on the mid-left side of the coin while its bottom extends to the bottom-right of the coin, touching the edge. The texts “LIBERTE·EGALITE·FRATERNITE” runs along the periphery of the coin from the bottom-left towards the bottom-right, in a clockwise direction. The face value of the coin is engraved at the top of the coin, “1 FRANC”; with the numeral value above the currency. At the bottom-center of the coin, the year of production is engraved. For example, “1919”.
