The coin has a gross weight of 20 grams and a 99.0% fine platinum. The obverse of the coin contains the effigy of General Lafayette; a French aristocrat, facing the left side of the coin. Along the periphery of the rim is the text “• GENERAL LA FAYETTE •” is inscribed from the mid-left side of the coin to the mid-right section of the coin, in a clockwise direction. From the mid-left section of the coin, the inscription “REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE” is engraved in a counterclockwise manner. The inscription translates to “Republic of France”. The name of the designer is below the effigy, ”D’AP. B. DUVIVIER”.

At the top of the liberty cap, “LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE”. The texts follow each other in a descending order. The text translates to “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity”. Cutting across the stalk of the of the liberty cap are two horizontal lines; one cutting at the middle of the stalk and the other near the base of the stalk. Between those two horizontal lines, the face value of the coin is carved; “100 F”. The year of mintage of the coin is at the bottom of the coin. The stalk of the liberty cap separates the year into two; “19” on the left side, “87”.
