Buy American Silver Buffalo Coins Online. The 1 oz American Buffalo Silver Round coin pays tribute to America’s native tribes and the majestic endangered buffalo. The Silver Buffalo coin or round is not produced by a government-owned mint but by private mints across United States of America. The popular design is from the Wall Street Mint and the Sunshine Mint. American Buffalo Silver Rounds have a diameter of 39 millimeters and a thickness of 2.8 millimeters. Having a reeded edge, the coin has a gross weight of 31.1035 grams and a silver fineness of 99.99%.

The obverse of the coin, designed by James Earle Fraser, depicts the image of a Native American chieftain. The image occupies almost two-thirds of the obverse side. The Native American faces the right side of the coin. Some strands of hair on the right side of the Chief’s are tied with a native head band covering his ear. At the back of his head, two feathers are depicted fixed in his hair. At the top-right side of the coin, the name “LIBERTY” is engraved in a clockwise direction. For the coin minted by the Sunshine Mint, the mint mark is on the Native American right shoulder- “SMI”.

The reverse side of the American Silver Buffalo coin features the left-facing profile of an American Bison- the buffalo, as it grazes on a small patch of land. The buffalo used to model the image reportedly came from an animal named Black Diamond who lived at the Central Park Zoo in New York. At the top of the coin, the size of the coin is stamped- “ONE TROY OUNCE”. At the bottom side of the coin, the silver fineness of the coin is engraved- “.9999 FINE SILVER”.

The coin is not legal tender, hence some taxes are imposed which both collectors and investors of the coin are compelled to pay. Since the coin is not an official minted bullion coin, you can buy American Silver Buffalo Coins Online at significantly lower premiums than officially minted silver coins like the American Silver Eagle.
