Mexico Gold Peso

The Mexican Mint first issued Mexico Gold Peso in 1905. It was struck from 90.0% gold and 10% copper. These coins are mainly issued as commemorative coin like the 5 Peso coin, which commemorates the 100^th anniversary of Mexico’s independence from Spain. The Mexico Gold Peso is a much-valued coin due to its distinctiveness that comes because of changes in its design.

The Mexico Gold Peso occurs in denominations of 2 Pesos, 2 ½ Pesos, 5, 10, 20, and 50 Pesos. The 2, 2 ½ and 5 Pesos spans 13mm, 15.5mm, and 19mm in width with a thickness of 1.02mm, 0.86mm, and 1.14mm respectively. Furthermore, they have a weight of 1.66g, 2.0833g, and 4.1666g respectively. The 10, 20, and 50 Pesos have a thickness of 1.4mm, 2.03mm, and 2.69mm respectively with a weight of 8.333g, 16.666g, and 41.666g. Alongside this the 10, 20, and 50 Pesos also have a width of 22.5mm, 27.5mm, and 37.1mm respectively. It is important to note that these coins have excellent bullion value as well as historical value. However, they have the lowest premiums over spot price among gold coins. They are ideal for those looking to add diversity to their coin collection.

The obverse side of these coins varies depending with the denomination but the reverse remains similar across all. The obverse of the 2, 2 ½, 5 and 10 Pesos features a profile depiction of Miguel Hidaldo Y Castlla surrounded by the face value of the respective coin and the year of mintage between 1905 and 1955. The 20 Pesos depicts the Cuauhxicalli Eagle Bowl Aztec Sunstone with the value of the coin surrounding it together with the year of mintage, which was between 1921 and 1941. The 50 Pesos depicts a Winged Angel of Independence. The reverse side of all the coins features the Mexican Coat of Arms, which depicts an eagle standing above a cactus branch devouring a snake.

The Mexican Mint was established in 1535 and is the oldest in the Western Hemisphere. It was established by Spain conquerors. Trading in this coin is not subjected to sales tax or VAT.
