Buy Australian Silver Koala coins online. The Australian Silver Koala is one of three major bullion coins issued each year in Australia. It was introduced after the Silver Koala, nearly 20 years later. The first coin to be released was the 1 ounce Silver Koala in 2007.
From 2007 to 2017, the Silver Koala had a silver fineness of .999. From 2018, the silver fineness was upgraded to .9999. With its reeded edge, the coin has a diameter of 40.6 millimeters and a thickness of 2.98 millimeters. Designed by Jody Clark, the obverse of the coin displays the sixth effigy of Queen Elizabeth II which graces the Australian coins. The Queen faces the right side of the coin with a crown on her head which she wore for her coronation in 1953. Around her neck is a beaded Victorian Coronation necklace. “ELIZABETH II” is inscribed from the bottom-left to the top-left of the coin. The world “AUSTRALIA” is inscribed from the top-right to the bottom-right. The face value of the coin is inscribed at the bottom; “• 1 DOLLAR •”.
The reverse of the 2019 Australian Silver Koala coin includes the newest image of a koala. The tree-dwelling marsupial is depicted wide awake as it sits on the branch of a eucalyptus tree. The creature clutches the branch with its sharp claws and watches out for any potential predators. Two twigs from the tree are on the rear side of the koala; one on the rear-right, the other on the rear-left. The name “AUSTRALIAN KOALA” is engraved at the top of the coin; from the top-left to the top-right side. At the bottom of the coin, the year of mintage, the size and the silver purity of the coin are inscribed-“2019 1 OZ 9999 SILVER”. The mint mark, ”P”, is embossed on the mid-right section of the coin.
The coin was produced by the Perth Mint, which was established on 20th June 1899. It is Australia’s official bullion mint which is wholly owned by the Government of Western Australia.
